About Us
Health research promoters
We want to accelerate the arrival the results of research to people based on the knowledge and experience we have as researchers and also as doctors.
We promote and detect solid research projects and contribute, with our own funds and with external fundraising, so that they can reach the public as soon as possible.
We focus on two areas: mental health and advanced therapies applied to treat hematological cancers.
We are moved by the spirit of "Miquel Rutllant", a reference in medicine in our country, who was able to promote and realize dozens of research projects that have been key to treating diseases such as certain cancers.
What We Do
Accelerating research in Oncohematology
The challenge of FISP is to provide and raise funds to accelerate the development of research projects based on advanced therapies and personalized or precision medicine.
We seek solutions for minority oncohematological diseases that do not have a solution with conventional treatment strategies. Especially, in those that do not have projects in development by the pharmaceutical industry.
We research to detect and treat Neurodevelopmental Disorders
From the beginning, we have researched and promoted research in neurodevelopmental disorders. We have shown that it is a causal factor of many difficulties in the environment we live in: academic failure, family conflicts, behavioral disorders, addictions, difficulty adapting to workplaces, etc.
We have shown that detecting these disorders at a childhood age and treating them has a very positive impact, and we provide and seek funds to finance detection and treatment projects for neurodevelopmental disorders in the school, family, university, work environment, etc.
We help improve the school and academic performance of Primary and Secondary Education students, Training Cycles, High School and University. The objective is to delimit the relevance of the Disorders of Neurodevelopment in low performance, school and academic failure and alterations of behavior in students who do not achieve the skills specific defined by in each academic cycle. Since 2011, more than 16,000 have gone through the program students.
The MIND program offers three different levels of participation:
- Screening: Affecting risk factors are detected learning and behavior. Is collects information from family members, tutors, teachers and teaching staff students.
- Diagnosis: A complete diagnostic evaluation is performed and multidisciplinary (psychological, speech therapy and psychiatric). Results are returned to the families and it is delivered a personalized report for each student.
- Treatment: A multidisciplinary, specific process is offered and customized, according to needs of each student.

Scientific Committee
The Scientific Committee is composed of individuals with a solid track record in the field of hematology, advanced therapies, and personalized medicine. It advises FISP on scientific content and collaborates in the initiatives and research programs of the Foundation.
History
The FISP was founded in 1985 to help boost, finance, and manage private funds destined for research at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau. It was founded by three leading doctors of the Hospital who were very involved in this field: Àlvar Net, Miquel Casas, and Miquel Rutllant, with Montserrat Grau, administrative manager.
The first board was chaired by Carles Ferrer Salat and an Honor Committee was created composed of the then Prince of Asturias, Felip de Borbó, as President, Jordi Pujol as vice president, and members such as Javier Solana, Minister of Education and Science, Julian Garcia Vargas, Minister of Health, Xavier Trias, Councilor of Health, and Pasqual Maragall, then mayor of Barcelona.
The first lines of research that were promoted were in the area of Neuropsychopharmacology, and numerous investigations have also been undertaken in the areas of Hematology, Biomedicine, and Oncology.
The creation of the FISP was the origin of other hospital research foundations that did not exist until then. It has also been the driving force behind health milestones such as the creation of the Oncological Research Institute or the ICO. Currently, the FISP leads and especially promotes the capture and management of funds for research in mental health and biomedicine.
